Sleeping With My Bible

by
11/04/2006 / Christian Living

I was on the phone with one of my Sisters in Christ the other day and we spoke of many things. The one thing that replayed in my mind was when we discussed sleeping with our bibles. Dont act like you have no clue! And this title aint gender specific, but women, especially women can feel me on this. That long and lonely night when our bodies go through urges, cravings, and withdrawals. Its just like a crash diet; you send your body into shock! Why? Because your body is going without! The flesh was accustom to your catering to it. Once saved, we all are trying to do the right things, but our bodies remember the wrong things. Tell me, have you slept with your medium to king sized pillow horizontally with your bible placed on top? Clutching them both for comfort and relief? Women are you feeling me? Now this is sleeping with your bible!

Honestly, celibacy was always hard for me. I would maintain my flesh for many months, and then I would give into my desires. The guilt would overcome me and become an unbearable feeling to withstand. Even when I had repented, my own self-condemnation would linger daily. As I was writing, sleeping with my bible, God gave me the four fs. It aint a grade you get for sinning! As a Christian, I must remember the four fs and the purpose they serve.

The four fs:
Fell, fallen, faithful, and forgiveness. Let me tell you, we will always go through the four fs cycle for as long as we live. As we get down to the nitty gritty, say out loud Im getting down to the nitty gritty!
Fell-this is what weve done, what just happened!
Fallen-this is the realization for a Christian of what weve done is wrong. Our spiritual conviction kicks in.

Note: You know Christians dont believe another Christian can fall! We tend to judge, belittle them, and/or gossip about them. We walk around with our haughty or holier than thou spirits. Sinned! Who sinnned? Who me? Some folk just repented of the same sin a day ago, or maybe a week ago. We forget, Pvrbs. 24:16 for a just man falleth seven time and riseth up again; but the wicked shall fall into mischief. We forget weve sinned too and that weve fallen into temptations. Dont belittle, or gossip about me while Im down, but help me and rejoice that I got back up in my rightful place- dwelling among the light and dwelling among the righteous.

The third f is faithful-1 John1: 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Note: Sometimes we are defeated because were giving the devil ammunition! We linger in our sins. We have not repented, so this allows the devil to overtake us. Keeping us in the flesh and not in the spirit. We wonder why were having trouble winning our battles-Our hearts aint right!
And of we go to Ps.32: 3 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. We worry about who will find our what weve done! What sin weve committed. You better learn how to expose your sins! Learn how to use your sins as a testimony for others to learn and stay away from.

The word expose means: 1. To make known (something discreditable) 2. To reveal the guilt or wrongdoing
The bible does say in James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. I stand before you today, exposing my sins as a testimony. Lets get real, for those who are thinking, how can she minister to others-right now? Go to John 8:7 He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Im like Mary Magdalene baby, you might think I shouldnt be here, I shouldnt be ministering the word, BUT GOD says differently! Amen
The final f is Forgiveness. Its amazing how true Gods word is. Look at Ps. 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgression unto the Lord and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah
You might as well have said WHEN I ACKNOWLEDGED glory be to God! Go to verse 6 For this shall everyone that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. The bible is literally and figuratively written. Your great waters meaning, your uncomfortable circumstance will not harm you! They will not remain-only there to help you grow! Your enemies will not prevail-God is gonna turn it around-their evil is turning out for your good. Your battles won! God has your back-God is back on the front line-your Whole Armor of God is on! Weapons and plots formed against you shall not prosper-they wont even come close enough to harm you! Tell your enemies, BRING IT ON! God has got my back! Look, I cant afford to be lost. I need to acknowledge and repent of my sins so my prayers can be answered and my battles won!
Moving On For years I had slept with my medium to king sized pillow horizontally with my bible placed on top. Many nights I would pray and cry myself to sleep. I would cry in hopes of my prayers would be answered quickly. I would cry in hopes God would say my child is crying, she is so sincere, let me give her-her hearts desires. Get this, crying does not emphasize or expedient your prayers. Nor, does sleeping with your bible!
My reasons for sleeping with my bible;
Comfort-I was hurting over uncomfortable circumstances. Longed for my husband, my Boaz, (my pillar of strengh)
Quick delivery- I wanted the removal of my uncomfortable circumstances. I had the nerve to get angry while I was going through-while I was growing in Christ. My thorn hadnt been removed!
Note: We must learn how to still praise God in the midst of our thorn! In the midst our difficulty! Even though weeks, months, and maybe years have passed, its a temporary situation to cause growth in your weakest areas. You cant sing or you cant shout, I have a testimony! if you havent gone through any uncomfortable circumstances. The bible references joy cometh in Psalms 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Some folk are waiting for morning to arrive. They are waiting until they see the sun to praise Him. You better get some R&R! (revelation and realization) The revelation, you dont have to wait until morning to feel joy. The realization, who to cast your care upon and that the battle is not yours brings joy at any hour. I aint waiting! My joy cometh NOW! My joy cometh NOW! My joy cometh NOW! My joy cometh NOW! My joy cometh NOW! My joy cometh NOW! Say it LOUD! My joy cometh NOW! So, press on into His presence and worship Him.
Last reason was Physical- I couldnt have Jesus in the flesh to hold and comfort me so my bible was the one thing I could touch and clutch onto.
Today, I find myself while Im going through my uncomfortable circumstance-my growing stages. I would carry my bible as comfort only. It was like if I carried it with me and kept it near me everything would be ok. Or, when we wear our crosses to show that we are Christian. It is there now solely for comfort. The bible and the cross around my neck became my physical things I could touch. A presence that helped my mind be comfortable while going through. This is deep! Look, we become to attached to the physical things we need to touch or hold onto just to keep us going. We cant walk independently while having a crutch! We are temporarily handicap by the physical objects we are holding on to. In the end times, we wont have the bible as our crutch. The words within the bible we will have to know in our hearts. Look at Ps. 119:11 Thy words have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. This is why we must meditate day and night in Gods word. So when the end times come, we wont be searching for a bible for comfort. We wont be searching for a bible for direction and guidance. We wont search because weve meditated in the word day and night. We wont search because Gods word is hidden in our hearts.
So I challenge;
Those who still sleep with your medium to king sized pillow horizontally with your bible placed on top hid Gods word in your heart.
Those with a thorn in your side, praise your way through your pain. Praise and worship Him in the midst of your thorn.
Those who wear crosses and carry your bibles solely for comfort, loose your crutch! Let go of the physical attachment making you handicap! Study so that you can feed your spirit even without your bible present. Remember we walk by faith and not by sight.
Those who linger in sin-repent! Stop giving the devil ammunition to defeat you.
When you stand, give God a praise! A shout! A joyful noise!
