Lucy Mouse Discovers a Fruit of the Spirit, Peace: A Children's Story

by Nancy Quinn
4/14/2008 / Short Stories

The school was buzzing with excitement this morning and Lucy Mouse joined in with the whispers. Special guests would be coming today for a school assembly. The teacher held up her paw for quiet, and told the class to take out their pencils and paper to practice writing their spelling words. Albert Mouse, the class bully, began to grumble that Moose Mouse took his pencil from his desk. Lucy knew she had a second pencil in her little purse, so quickly took it out and handed it to Albert. He grabbed it and reluctantly mumbled a quick "thanks" to Lucy. Moose smiled at Lucy and the friends began carefully writing their words and doing their best to make the letters neatly.

The hallway quickly filled up when the bell rang and Lucy and Moose tried not to bump into their classmates as they joined their friends in line to walk to their favorite class Art! Albert pushed Lucy and said "Hey, you jumped ahead of me in line. I'm supposed to be in front of you." Even though Lucy knew that wasn't true, she said she was sorry and let Albert Mouse get in front of her.

The classroom's paint smell reminded Lucy that she would get to paint her papier-mch bowl today. The students listened to the instructions from the teacher and then went over to the table to choose a paint brush and a cup of paint. Albert loudly complained to the teacher that someone took the last cup of blue paint. The teacher poured blue paint into another cup and handed it to Albert. As he walked to his table, Frankie Mouse turned to ask the teacher a question and bumped into Albert. The blue paint splatted on the floor and Albert began to yell. Lucy Mouse grabbed a paper towel and wiped it up for Albert as Frankie apologized and then went to the table to ask the teacher for another cup of blue paint. That crisis quickly over, everyone was able to go back to making their projects colorful.

The morning was almost over when Lucy Mouse began to recognize the tempting smell of cheese pizza coming from the lunchroom. The bell rang and everyone anxiously lined up to go to the lunchroom. Lucy quietly talked with Moose as they waited in the lunch line wondering what the assembly would be about. They saw brief glimpses of oddly shaped objects being carried onto the stage. Sitting down with her friends, Lucy began to nibble on her pizza. Albert arrived at the table with his lunch tray and told everyone to move over. Everyone looked up at him, not wanting him at their table. Lucy and Moose pushed their trays to the side and scooted over and told Albert he could sit by them. Lucy smiled and told Albert she didn't want her cookie and offered it to him. Albert grumbled a "thanks" and sat down.

The excitement began to build as lunchtime neared to an end. They soon began to hear sounds of music coming from behind the curtain. The trays were emptied and everyone found their seats again as the curtains swooshed open. The volume raised and a band appeared. Everyone cheered as they began to sing along to the familiar song.

Can you find all the ways that the Fruit of the Spirit Peace was used in the story? Lucy and her friends stay peaceful and try to stop arguments before they start. When you become a Christian, God will help you develop ALL the fruits of the Spirit and He gives you the Holy Spirit to help you do your best each day. If you don't know Jesus as your best friend yet, you can just pray the prayer below that Lucy Mouse and her friends did, and Jesus will come into your heart and be your best friend too! Jesus loves you very much!
***************
Dear God, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for me on the cross and that He arose from the grave so that I can live with Him in Heaven someday. I am now trusting Jesus as my Savior. Thank you for loving me and saving me. Amen.
*****************
Galations 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
