Look for Hidden Gifts

Living in a highly wooded area, we usually hear, rather than see, the drilling sounds of the neighborhood woodpeckers. I'm sure the woodpeckers have trouble deciding which trees to give their attention to since there are so many to choose from. The sounds echo through the forest and I continually struggled to find the source of the sounds and was never able to actually see a woodpecker.

One early morning we pulled into the bus stop parking area. There before us was the object of my long desired curiosity. A beautiful woodpecker in all his colorful glory was perched on an old stump eyeing our approaching car with suspicion. We watched as he suddenly spread his wings and flew from our view. Soon, we were the audience to his musical drumming sounds in the near distance as we waited for the school bus.

Like an unexpected birthday gift surprise, are you open to see the divine gifts the Lord gives you throughout the day? From the perfect timing of a close parking space to a store, to a robin perched on a branch, I encourage you to watch for little gifts from the Lord through your day. I try not to let the busyness of my day distract me from appreciating the small things in life. Hearing my son say "Luv ya" as he slams the car door, a hawk gliding high above me, I try to stay in tuned to all the small gifts the Lord places in my path to remind me of His love and His beautiful creation. I don't want the busyness of living to keep me from seeing and appreciating all the gifts from the Lord for me throughout the day. His love for us blesses us in so many ways - how many can you find today?

Job 12:10 "In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind."

Psalm 16:11 "You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand."
