Do We Really "Believe" In Christ?
Weekly Inspirations Motivated By Grace
by Matt Thompson - www.MotivationByGrace.org

Matthew 3:7; But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducee's coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?"

Every now and then, the English language takes a turn and many times something gets lost in the meaning of specific words. Today, I'd like to focus on the word "believe".

Something tremendous has been lost in the understanding of the meaning of the word believe. And that something is what John could literally "see" in the Sadducee's and the Pharisees in the above scripture.

Spiritually speaking, one of the main elements concerning what it means to believe means "to be committed". This is something that can be seen and discerned by those that are of the "Spirit", born again Christians. When the Pharisees and Sadducee's showed up at John's baptism of repentance, John instantly knew they weren't there to repent. They came to John in all their traditional "religious" garb, with intent only to seek that which would aid them in destroying Jesus, as Jesus was a literal threat to their way of life.

I wonder. In realizing that a great part of what it means to "believe" is "to be committed to", how would WE answer the question if we were asked "Do you BELIEVE in Jesus"? I imagine some would say yes. Some no. But in all reality, there are a great many of us that could only answer, "Somewhat"... Is there such a thing? Can we be only "partially" committed to Christ?

When I speak of commitment, it is not a reference to what your eyes, ears, feet and hands do in service to our Lord. God says He judges the "heart" of a man, and the "commitment" which God wants is that of the heart. The body will follow the commitment of the heart.

A good question for us ALL to ask ourselves today is, "Am I committed to Christ?" Ask with sincerity, and seek understanding in Truth. As you study your daily devotionals this week, do so seeking the "commitment" (belief) required to make any Godly Truth manifest in our lives.

If you find you are not committed at all, then have the fortitude to face the fact you do NOT yet "believe" in Christ. Overcome the error with which saTan has presented you in your understanding. Seek the Holy Spirit, and come to Christ in full repentance of who you are.

IF we are short in this area, God will lead us to a place of full commitment in Him, if that is what we "seek" from Him in earnestness of heart.
