Hands

Young, soft, supple hands-beautiful
grace the young girl before him
Unworked hands
Long, pretty nails sculptured just so
How beautiful they are
As he places the ring on her left ring finger,
he says,"I do."

Plump, rosy, beautifully chubby hands
grace the baby before them, God's son
So adorable as one hand grasps His mother's finger
Trusting hands, true and innocent hands

Calloused, rough, hardworked hands
are of the carpenter and God's son
As they nail one board to another,
measure, cut, and nail again
True hands, honest hands, hardworking hands

Also, aging hands nearby
Also, worked hands
Virtuous hands nearby prepare meals for the carpenter and God's son
Virtuous hands, sweet hands, gentle and meek

Loving hands that give life itself
For now and eternity
God's son's hands
Gentle and kind, that heal the sick and broken of heart,
troubled and discouraged
Nailed to a cross for all sinners who will believe
Hands that didn't have to sacrifice anything
Beautiful, loving, giving, couragous, and gentle
Outstretched for all who will come

My name is Rhonda Smith. I am from Meridian, MS. I love poetry. I remember one of my favorite gifts as a child was a Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme book. It's amazing that the lyrical children's poems made me want to write, but it did. I have been writing since I was 13. Hope you enjoy.
