Regrets and the Little Things

Mommy! Mommy! Push me high!
Over the mountain, up to the sky!
Mommy! Mommy! Watch me slide,
Down to the ground. Oh what a ride!

Mommy! Mommy! Watch me climb,
Monkey bars. Oh, how sublime!
Mommy! Please give me a hug!
I tripped and fell on our big rug!

I'll kiss it better precious child.
Please just try not to be so wild.
Now run and play some more today,
I've not got time to stay and play.

Oh, there's so much I've got to do,
Seams to mend, and dishes too!
I'll come and play in a little while,
But for now, just try to smile,

While my work gets done,
And my errands run.
Oh, there's so much I've got to do,
I'd like to stop and play with you.

The days go by and turn to years,
I've kissed away so many tears,
But seldom did I take the time
To stop and watch my children climb.

The years have passed and it's too late
To make them stop and shut the gate.
My children have grown-up and gone,
Another day is yet to dawn,

And how I wish I would have stopped,
(Work now and then could have been dropped,
To take the time to run and play)
And taken life, just day by day!
