Is Their A Resemblance

by Randall Wadley
12/12/2006 / Devotionals

As Christmas nears, it seems that I get lonely. I am a divorce Christian father with a sixteen year old son. Hes into girls and NASCAR, plus hes involved in a number of after school activities. I remember when he was younger I would get him every other weekend, and everything was about his Daddy. He wanted to be just like me, he wanted me to save my Dodge truck just for him for when he came of age to drive. His mannerisms were the same, he wanted to wear the same type cloths, boots, and ball caps, you get the picture.

Today as I went to and fro, to the doctors and then shopping. This was on my mind most of the day. When I call him, hes either not there or he doesnt have time to talk. And when Im with him, Hes a million mile away, in another world. His eyes have been opened unto the world. The enemy paints a delicious picture of the forbidden fruit. When he does come over for the weekend, its not about loving on daddy, its about the computer and MySpace. He calls his friends to all hours of the night. I know this sounds selfish of me, but its not all about daddy any more, and I miss that close relationship.

Do you think Jesus gets lonely around the Christmas season?

I mean its all about Jesus right?

Or is it?

The point Im trying to make, are you trying to be more like God, or are you trying to look like the world? Is your relationship growing closer, or is it getting colder? The month of December always seems to be running at the speed of light. Lets be real, its a mad house, it starts on November 26th and it doesnt settle down until the second week of January. We feel rushed, pressured, and overwhelmed during Christmas. We get caught up in the frenzy, we speak Jesus with our tongues to our friends and family, we post our best Christian smiles as we see friends at the malls. But the reality is that our minds are far from Christ and His business.

Just as my son seems to be growing farther from me, we are growing farther from God.

Christmas is the celebration of Jesus birth, but most are like my son, their a million miles away, bound by the lust of the world. Your saying, how can you sit on the judgment seat, you dont know my heart. I dont judge the heart, but I can tell a lot about someone by there actions and what comes out of their mouths. Christmas is about Jesus and peace on earth, not about the over spending mania at the mall!

I can see Jesus at the right hand of the Father with tears in His eyes as He looks upon His birthday celebration; its turned into a festival of tears for Him. We are called to be separate from the world.

Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you. (II Corinthians 6:17)(KJV)

Can you hear that gentle whisper, Come out from among them And be separate

He longs for you to love and worship Him. We need a double portion of BOLDNESS in the coming New Year! We need to be separate from the world, but unified in the body of Christ! Boldness only comes through love! Just as the mother chicken calls her chicks and they scurry for protection under mommas wings, and if the predator come near, she would sacrifice her life for her babies, or what if someone tried to hurt your child in your presence. Boldness would well up in you for the love of that child until you came unglued on the perpetrator. You would step front and center and boldly say; Not today! Not tommorow! Not ever! This is the boldness in which I speak. The kind like the desciple had, boldness unto death!

As long as theirs one Christian bound, the whole body is bound! I challenge you to step out of your comfort zones in the New Year and let the world know what God looks like! We cant afford any more closet Christians! Come out from your closets, we were made in His image! We are the LIGHT of the world! (Matt 5:14)

Jesus we love you, we long to take on Your ways and do the thing Youve done. We thank you for creating us in Your image and making us the light of the world. I ask you to remove the rocks we hide under and give us boldness without limit. Let your light shine through us; let us be a light for the path of the lost in the New Year.
