Where Is God In My Miscarriage?

by Anna Wood
12/03/2008 / Death

God's goodness doesn't ever depend upon our circumstances. Just because we don't "feel" God, doesn't mean that He isn't there. He can be trusted, always, no matter what our circumstances may be and no matter what our feelings may tell us. It is normal to feel abandoned and to ache with loneliness when you have suffered a devastating loss; however, feeling abandoned doesn't mean that you have been. God promised that, if we are following Him, He will never leave us nor forsake us. Our God has promised that He would always be there for us no matter what. When a child dies before even seeing the light, our tendency may be to cry out to God and ask Him, "Why!?!" "Why did You let me become pregnant if You knew that I would miscarry?" "Why couldn't some other woman (a woman less worthy than me--is unspoken) have lost her child?" "What about those women who don't want their babies and abort them? Why couldn't you have let her miscarry? She didn't want it anyway. I desperately wanted mine and You took it." It might be tempting but it is an exercise in futility.

Sin, death and pain are all part of life here on this earth. Life is unfairperiod. Some unfairness will fall into each lifewhen you lose your job after you have been loyal and faithful to the company for 10 years; when you experience health problems even though you drink enough water, exercise, rest and eat healthy; when your husband's factory closes down in the fall with Christmas coming and no way to pay for it; when a friend betrays you; when a senseless accident occurs that cripples your daughter for life; when your father has a stroke two weeks after retirement; when.

Life isn't fair but our God is good, always. Life is unfair but God is sovereign in everything. John 16: 33 says, "In this world you will have trouble." This isn't some paradise that we are living in; Paradise comes in the form of a home in heaven for those who believe in and obey the Lord Jesus Christ. God watches over the sparrows of the air and knows when they fall; He knew that your baby would die and He knew when it would happen. God is never taken by surprise. He has a purpose in even the tiniest and shortest life. You can be sure that your baby didn't die by accident or as a punishment to you. Romans 8: 1 says that there is "no condemnation for those who belong to Jesus Christ." When sin entered the world, death entered the world. Adam and Eve and the world itself was created to be perfect but after thousands of years of sin and rebellion against God, we would be foolish to think that the human body hasn't deteriorated from our original state of perfection.

God doesn't promise that we will never have pain on this earththat is a corruption of the Gospel. Ours isn't a life of freedom from pain, fear and problems; ours, if we are in Christ, is a life where the pain, fear and problems will one day make sense to us as God uses them to glorify Himself, bless us and others. Jesus promised in Matthew 28: 20, that He would be with us "always, even to the end of the earth."
