Treats Santa Likes

by Anna Wood

It's almost Christmas and soon Santa Claus will be getting ready for his annual flight to deliver presents and goodies to good little girls and boys around the world. Children usually want to leave out a treat for Santa in return for what he brings them. Everybody seems to think of leaving milk and cookies out for him and while he really appreciates that, there are also some other treats that he likes to find waiting for him, some of which folks don't usually think of. So this year, if your children are young enough to be expecting a visit from Santa Claus on Christmas Eve and they want to leave out a snack for him to thank him for his efforts, I have it on good authority that he likes to find some of the following waiting for him:

Strong peppermints for his throat since it's so cold and dark out on Christmas Eve

Dried Ginger (sugared a bit) or ginger drops, these can help the nausea that can be brought on by all of those cookies

Cookies (especially...any kind)

Slice of cake (especially Red Velvet and Chocolate Fudge but any kind is good)

Slice of pie (fruit pie especially since they aren't easy to come by at the North Pole but any kind would be appreciated)

A sandwich--(so he doesn't get too many sweets)

Some raw veggies to munch on (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, etc.; they're not that easy to get at the North Pole)

A chocolate peppermint patty (helps get rid of the sweet aftertaste of cookies--plus, they're "just plain good", he says)

Ginger tea, also good for nausea if he's had too many cookies

Milk (he likes it both warmed and chilled, although, if it's really cold, go ahead and warm it in a mug)

Coffee, with creamer left out so he can add it; (not too many people seem to think of this one)

Hot tea (mmmm)

Hot cocoa with lots of marshmallows

And, for Rudolph and the other reindeer...leave out apples, carrots and maybe some water; if you are a country kid, leave out sweet hay in the barn (if your folks agree)by the way, the reindeer also are reported to like pretzels!
