No One to Mourn

by Jan Ross
12/28/2006 / Parenting

Deep in the ocean of povertys pain,
She cries from the depth of her heart.
Out on her own since her parents were slain,
Her whole world has fallen apart.

Lost with a far away look in her eyes,
The orphans resolve fades away,
Learning to hide and to silence her cries.
Will mankind each other betray?

Sleeping in shelters of cardboard at night;
Her bed but a rag on the ground.
No pillow cradles her headits not right!
No address where she can be found.

Clinging to memries of loves sacred song.
The void in her heart grew so cold.
Where in this world does an orphan belong?
No vision of hope left to hold.

Frequently busses bring visitors by,
Who tell her how much they love God.
Standing with tears in their eyes, they will cry,
Then turn and walk off with a nod.

Where are the mothers who long for a child?
Are orphans too hard to take in?
Where are the hearts who will love, not defile
Whose patience is slow to wear thin?

We want a baby thats perfect! they moan.
Abandoned kids cause too much pain!
Find us a newborn to raise as our own!
An orphan is public domain!

Found in her shelter of cardboard one morn,
Another life wasted away.
No one will cry for her, no one will mourn;
No tears fall on her unmarked grave.

Agency services from coast to coast
Are desperate for parents wholl say:
Find for us children who need us the most!
A home for themwell make a way!

Mothers are needed to nurture and love,
To teach and to mentor and guide;
Showing the wisdom that comes from above,
Acceptance with arms open wide.

Fathers with strength have so much they can give,
Defending their children with pride.
Helping a child learn to grow and to live
Examples of love undenied.

Sadly the worlds view of love is maligned;
Those needing it most held at bay.
Loving the innocenttheyre not declined!
Is this Christian love on display?

Children abandoned on streets, how perverse!
While homes remain emptyabsurd!
Must they succumb to humanitys curse?
Or will their cries by us be heard?

Food for Thought: In the United Sates alone, government statistics reveal there are well over 500,000 children living on the streets, abandoned and cast-away. In contrast, there is a seven to ten year waiting period for parents wanting to adopt a healthy white newborn.
