Acadian Expulsion 1755

There is a hurrying
in the settled land as
cries shout "The English
are coming!"

Murmurings in the night
are footfalls in flight
as the soul of Acadia flees--

farmers don't wish to fight.

Over the sea Proclamations
read in bold print and
strong accents "Free land for all
come and see. It's there
for you and family."

Irish and Scots take up the
call and a harsh journey. Never
mind it isn't theirs after all
what is Canada to them
except space somewhere else?

But what a place to raise
their babies a chance
to grow tall be a farmer
land abounding from earth
to distant sky...

New life desires are immediate
everyone's in a frenzy
and ships begin their plunge.
