As a Child Learns
Baby footprints straddle
foam-crested waves
as
each push of water
tests her confidence
mama calls
be careful honey
don't fall,
statement of mother-love
as a warm wave
caresses
little time to hear
her voice of
concern.
Restless toes grasp
Northumberland pebbles.
