I believe in evolution

Spurgeon wrote that, "Christ takes a worm and transforms it into an angel." (Morning and Evening, 22 January)

I like how he phrased the thought, which mirrors Paul's message that, "we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV)

If we are in Christ we are being changed into the likeness of Jesus. During this transformation there are times we feel these changes dramatically and moments we feel like the process has stagnated.

There are seasons God feels close and at others he seems distant sometimes this is because our worm-characteristics are too strong, or at others God withdraws himself. Spurgeon also said, "If He withdraws Himself a little, it is but to make me prize His presence more" (Morning and Evening, 3 February)

Some days I'm convinced I bear more resemblance to a worm than an angel. Nevertheless, I'm assured God is making progress in my life and that, "the LORD will fulfil his purpose for me." (Psalms 138:8 NIV)

When it comes to God changing my life, "from one degree of glory to another," (ESV) I'm relieved to believe in evolution.
