Forgive Me Jesus
(For Bobby)
Banging on the outside door
'cause dad won't let her in
momma's drunk again. "Bring
me an egg sandwich," she cries
and the boy does. "And a cup
of coffee to chase away the vapours,"
she cries. And she cries.
"Dear momma, don't cry."
And she pulls back on that
sandwich and drinks her coffee.
And cries out, "Thank you Bobby.
And forgive me Jesus!" she shouts.
"Forgive me Jesus."
Now we play checkers and
sing 'hill billy' songs together.
