Freedom.....

by Shannon Heiden
3/16/2009 / Devotionals

Freedom is moving from survival to stability, from stability to success and from success to significance. Zig Ziglar.

The Word of God speaks of freedom often. From the Old Testament through the New, God speaks of liberating His people, because if we don't know freedom, and we walk around bound and tied up, this will render us fearful and ineffective in the Kingdom of God.

Just think of the Israelites, think of how miserable they were and how their misery grieved the heart of God. Think of how amazing it was that God himself raised up a deliverer (Moses) and sent him to liberate them. Think of how God used mighty, powerful wonders in their midst and brought them out, not barely, but with power and He even gave them double for their trouble by bringing them out with the wealth of Egypt.

The nation they had broke their backs on, the nation that they had died to build, God in the end, gave them all the fruit of their labor and then some. Isn't He just amazing?

God did one miracle after another, just think of how Moses' weakness in speech was the very thing God used and made him strong in.

God not only protected his kids while coming out but He killed Pharaoh their oppressor right in from of them, it was if God was saying; "your Pharaoh will never control you again."

Even though all of these amazing and wonderful things happened to the Israelites, they quickly forgot all of it at the first sign of trouble.
How quickly (three days actually) it took them to look at what they couldn't see (food, water, shelter) and forget the things they did see.

We are reminded that God set them free and they went from survival to stability and maybe even enjoyed a little success, but the many became the few and ultimately God only used two to take into significance.

How easy it is to be an Israelite, how painfully alike we are. The Lord of Hosts delivered us and rescued us. He has shown each of us Himself in ways that no man could counterfeit and yet on any given day, faced with any circumstance we quickly forget yesterdays mighty hand of deliverance and we cry out "why have you left me like this?" All the while He is moving us and teaching us lessons that if left up to us, we would opt out to learn.

I am wondering how many of us have moved from survival to stability?... you're out of Egypt but in the wilderness? How many have enjoyed the success of the Jordan? And how many of us have built a house there and have never moved from success to the significance of the Promised Land?

True freedom doesn't stay content with yesterday's successes, no matter how wonderful they may be. Yes, we need to celebrate our victories but we are the Church, the Ecclesia, the called out ones, we have been called out, we have passed over from death unto life to pass through and keep moving.

Passed over to pass through. We have passed over surviving, to pass through stability and even success to go on to our true significance and take the Land that awaits us.

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)NIV
