Miracle Grow
by PamFord Davis Are you an overachiever, a perfectionist? Do you always push past your limits, and stretch your comfort zones? In Elementary School, back in the 1960's our grading system was as follows: E=Excellent / S= Satisfactory / N= Needs Improvement / or U= Unsatisfactory. My grades, as I remember were mostly S. It seems there were notes on my report cards which read: " Would do better if she would apply herself"...An interesting thing about E for Excellent was brought to my mind not too far back. In my way of thinking excellent meant perfect. Dictionary definitions about excellence include: having good qualities, in high degree, superior in worth or value, excels. Do you excel in anything? I don't know if an overachiever is a perfectionist; but I don't think there is much of a difference. I guess I am rambling; it's time to make a point. My mind began the interest in overachievers when I saw something from my living room window. Close to the house, in our front yard, there is a bush,or shrubbery. It is full and green, even in our cold Alabama winter months. There is something that really draws my eye to the bush. One branch, with leaves, stands much taller than the rest! The logical thing to do is trim it back. Right? I almost hate to have that done! It is an overachiever! It set its' goals high, and reached them. Yes, it is the center of attraction! Can we grow like that, really stretch ourselves spiritually? I understand Type A Personalities are always pushing, setting high goals for themselves or their business. A favorite Ladies Sunday School Teacher once shared a special verse with us. I think it may explain our growth, or lack of it..." So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you being ROOTED AND GROUNDED in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which SURPASSES knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God, (Ephesians 3:17-19 NAS)." Yes, that person is rooted and grounded in love! That is the ultimate "Miracle Grow" product! Be that overachiever!
