Sunday Morning Rush
by Alyssa Avant It is a typical Sunday morning; the alarm goes off at just before 8 am. Not too terribly early, no, but it is the weekend and we stayed up a little too late watching TV the night before. We hit the snooze and try to get just a few more winks. Before you know it though, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. How many of you are familiar with this scenario. I have lived through it so many times. Sure, it could be any other morning, but this is Sunday, and we have a choice. "Go to church." On the other hand, "Sleep In." For me the choice is clear, at least for now. I work at the church, and my husband and I both teach Sunday school, so you might say, for me there is no choice, but yes there is. You see I made that choice when I took on that responsibility. However, we all have a responsibility, a responsibility to God and ourselves to make the choice to rise and shine for Sunday morning services. Sundays are for most Christians a day of worship, fellowship and rest, or at least they should be. I know that the morning begins in frantic mode, trying to fix breakfast, get a shower, bathe the kids, and find the Sunday shoe that is hiding under the bed. These are all things we do at my house as well. But really, don't you love it when you finally fall into the pew and hear those familiar hymns playing on the piano or organ as the service begins. For me, it brings me down from my overwhelming state of confusion and rush, to a calm state of awe. Sitting in the presence of God and other believers it is hard to be anything but calm. Somehow, it always seems to make us feel good. That is why we are there to worship and I know that if you're like me, it not only allows you to focus on God, but it also allows you to slow down and rest. I hope that you and your family make Sunday morning a priority and rush to rest at your church's morning services.
