It's Now or Never, Yet the Father Waits
by Stanley Hasegawa All of life takes place in the present. We can't live in the past. We can't live in the future. What is true of life in general is also true of obedience in particular. We can only obey God or not obey God right now, in this present time and circumstance. We must obey now, or this present time and circumstance will be gone, never to be repeated. It is better to obey now than to promise to obey in the future. It is better to obey now than to beat myself up over past failures. And yet... Yet again, I have failed you Father. Forgive me. Thank you for restoring me to yourself. Thank you for waiting, yet again. Help me to see that you love me, failure and rebel though I have been. You make all things new. Help me to obey you in this new now. Thank you for the privilege and opportunity to obey you. "I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." (Galatians 2:20) I don't want to be a complacent wimp. Jesus, you have overcome the world. Live in me right now in this moment. Transform me from a complacent wimp into an overcomer, a conqueror. Through your faithfulness, give me the courage to struggle, to fight, to suffer in order to obey. You are my hope. My only hope. I praise your mighty name. I rejoice in your holy name. "He also said to me, 'It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give water free of charge from the spring of the water of life. The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be my son.'" (Revelation 21:6-7) I am richly blessed in my marriage. I have two grown children. I am semi-retired. I have been a computer programmer, systems analyst, househusband and homeschool teacher. I love to walk, talk and eat, and write short articles about devoting our lives to Jesus.
