You Talk Too Much
by PamFord Davis Why is gossip usually preceded by the word juicy? The description brings to mind a desirable food that brings delight to any one who swallows it. Is it sweet and juicy as it flows from the lips spreading it? Why don't we realize it is bitter when it makes its way back to the victim raked through the coals? God sees sin much differently than most of us. We have a tendency to classify sins by categories. In our way of thinking gossip is not very serious, not a strength but surely nothing to feel guilty about. It is an eye opener to notice the company gossip keeps in Romans. "So it was that when they gave God up and would not even acknowledge him, God gave them up to doing everything their evil minds could think of. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness and sin, of greed and hate, envy, murder, fighting, lying, bitterness, and gossip. They were backbiters, haters of God, insolent, proud braggarts, always thinking of new ways of sinning and continually being disobedient to their parents (Romans 1:28-30 Living Bible)." The more people talk, the easier it becomes to fall into the trap of gossiping.
