CHRISTIAN AND MEDICAL PRINCIPLES FOR MANAGING STRESS
by Miriam Kinai

Whenever you face a stressful situation, seek the Lord's guidance first. Do not rush to act or dash to decree your stance without asking for His direction. Pray and you will receive insights that will enable you make constructive decisions for He promises you that when you call on Him, He will show you great and mighty things that you did not know. (Jeremiah 33:3)

If you have not welcomed Jesus into your life, ask Him in so that He can help you resolve your stressful situation. Simply admit that He is the Son of God, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Submit to His Lordship and trust Him totally because He will not bail out on you when you are hardest hit by the waves for He promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5) As He is also able to calm your storm just as He calmed the disciples' storm when the wind and waves obeyed Him, (Mark 4:39) trust Him even if your skies and sea have turned black and you cannot see a way out of the stressful situation and you will have His peace which surpasses all understanding.

To stop the waves of hopelessness from engulfing your mind when the waters are up to your neck, continually remind yourself that you can do all things through Jesus who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13) for with God everything is possible (Matthew 19:26) including resolving your stressful situation.

Eliminate negative thoughts and you will perk up your feelings and be better able to discern God's perfect will for your life. (Romans 12:2) You will also be more capable to position yourself perfectly by doing what you can as you wait for Him to do for you what you can't do for yourself. For example, if you are sick, position yourself for healing by praying, meditating on healing Scriptures, consulting a doctor, and taking your medications as you wait for God to heal you.

As you wait, curb your impatience by daily engaging in medically proven relaxation techniques such as breathing deeply, stretching tense muscles, and exercising aerobically by running or swimming.

In addition, set weekly appointments to engage in an enjoyable hobby and help the less fortunate. These will give you something pleasant to look forward to and help you appreciate your blessings better. Do all this and you will manage your stress or live with your stressors without getting distressed or di-seased.
