Learning About Worship from my Dog Pochito
by Angel Casiano Recently, a good friend of mine, Reggie Bridges, gave me an awesome gift; a little Dotson puppy that has quickly taken the heart of my family. This dog is truly giving this family a lesson about worship. The word "worship" means: "As a dog licking his master's hands." Perhaps, if we want to study good lessons about worship we can save a lot of money on books and conferences; all we have to do is look and study the behavior of our dogs. We named the dog, Pochito. As far as I am concerned, Pochito means nothing; it has no meaning; it is just a funny sounding name that we find appropriate for a dog that small. By the way, I broke all my rules on dogs when I got Pochito; I said many times that I would never own a dog smaller than a cat. The first thing that impresses me about Pochito is that he does not even know us well, but he is as exited as if he knows us forever. Many of us know so much about God, but still can't experience excitement about Him. We ought to be crazy about our God, passionate about Him and totally dedicating our lives to Him. Pochito always wants to be around us; I am talking aboutalways. If we are sitting down watching TV he wants to be close to us. If we are reading he wants to be close to us; even when we go to the bathroom he waits outside the door crying for us to get out and pick him up. This dog is teaching me to pray for that kind of hunger for God; where I am so, in love with Him that I can't live without His manifested presence; where I get love-sick just to be one second away from Him. My God, help us Lord! I already gave Pochito a bath and I have to tell you; he was not too excited about that one. However, the other day I was taking a peaceful bath and did not realized that I left the door just open enough for Pochito to squeeze his little body through the door into my bathroom. Pochito started jumping up and down as he wanted to, again, be close to me. I was not expecting this, but somehow he managed to jump in my bathtub. It was so funny; he started swimming, as he was so, small that he was not able to stand. I told myself, well that should have scared him enough not to try this again, but again and again he jump in that bathtub. Pochito gets so excited when he sees us that he doesn't care about food, water, going potty, etc. Pochito is all about us! My God, I don't remember the last time I lost my appetite for being so excited about Jesus; many times we can't even push the plate back just for a while to spend some time with Jesus in prayer and fasting. Everything that we go through in life has a purpose and everybody that we get in contact with in this world has a reason for being in our lives. Truly, my dog Pochito is teaching me about Worship. "Father I pray that you will give me a passion for you just as Pochito has a passion for us." I wonder what your dog is teaching you! Do you care to share?
