The Glad-o-Meter A Fun Bible Object Lesson for Your Kids
by Kathy Vincent On a scale of 1 to 10, how glad are you that God has forgiven your sins so that you can be in His forever family? I sure hope it's a 10! How glad are your kids? Here's a fun Bible object lesson to help your kids learn that because of the work Jesus did on the cross they can be exceedingly glad! Here's what you do: The object you will use for this lesson will be a Glad-o-meter. You make this with a paper plate. Divide the plate into 10 parts and secure and arrow in the center of the plate that can easily move around the plate. Decorate it to make it look fun and engaging. Don't forget to add the title of Glad-o-Meter on the front of it. Ask the following questions to help stimulate discussion: 1. Does anyone know what I am holding? (Wait for responses.) That's right. It's a Gad-o-Meter. It measures people's gladness. Let me show you what I mean. Raise your voices in shouts if you are glad when school is out. (Wait for response. Make the arrow go up to a high number according to the level of excitement. Continue to ask the kids other questions such as "Raise you voices if you are glad when it rainswhen it's your birthdaywhen mom fixes spinach for dinnerFinally, ask your children how glad they are that Jesus died on the cross for them. Respond appropriately to their level of joy. For instance, you might say, "Wow! I am so glad that you are glad that Jesus died on the cross for your sins" or you might have to say, "My goodness, there doesn't seem to be very many here who are glad that Jesus died for them.") 2. Ask a child to read Psalm 92:4. Whoever wrote this Bible verse sure was glad because of the work God did by sending His Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world. 3. Let's learn a little more about this Bible verse and learn how to apply it to our own lives. Here are 3 important points. Point 1: Has Jesus forgiven all of your sins? If the answer is,"Yes!" you should be really, really, really GLAD! You should be one of the most joyful people in the whole world! Why? Because Jesus died on the cross for your sins. This was His work that our verse talks about today and because He did the job God asked Him to, you should be glad. Point 2: Now it's time to do your job. If you are glad because Jesus has forgiven your sins then be thankful and loving to God. Ask God to keep your joy strong. Show love to your friends and family and all those God brings into your life. Point 3: And finally, go and tell others about Jesus so that they can be glad too. There are millions in the world who have not heard about the good and glad news that Jesus wants to forgive their sins and give them life eternal. God wants to use you to share this life-changing truth. This 3-Point Bible Object Lesson for Kids was inspired by my reading of C.H. Spurgeon's devotional on Psalm 92:4 from his book Morning and Evening. You too can be inspired by your favorite Christian authors and come up with your own 3-Point Sermon for Kids.
