Singing Telegram
by PamFord Davis Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! The host lights candles on a cake in preparation for the celebration; the guest of honor makes wishes before blowing out the candles. Family and friends sing happy birthday, making the passing of another year official. It might be a little embarrassing finding you are the center of attraction, but also nice to receive love and best wishes. Singing telegrams carry the birthday message a step further. A paid messenger directs the birthday song to you at the request of an admirer. The singer concludes the rendition with the name of the sender; the surprise is over; you are flushed and elated. The messenger continues rounds, and life returns to normal; birthdays come only once a year, and the spotlight will fall upon someone else. The shepherds received the announcement of Jesus birthday with fanfare and glory. "This very day in King David's hometown a Savior was born for you. He is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11 CEV)." That very day is a very happy birth - day for you and me! Through his birth, we find fulfillment, peace and joy everlasting.
