Anointing has almost become synonymous with talent. When we hear a talented Christian singer, for example, we automatically say he or she is anointed. But there's a definite difference between anointing and talent. In Ecclesiastes we are told to do all that we do, with all our hearts. In other words, whatever you do in life should be done to the best of your ability, as unto to the Lord. Therein is excellence. Talent is natural gifting that you were born with. You could be talented in anything from drawing to designing; from catering to communicating. Talent can lay dormant or it can be exploited and talent can be honed to become better with practice. But remember that, as a God Tracker, whatever your talent is it has purpose in the kingdom of God. So use it for the glory of God. However, anointing is different from talent in that it is not natural gifting. Anointing comes exclusively from God who gives it to specific individuals for a unique purpose, irrespective of talent. Anointing is the exclusive God given ability to function in a specific skill in the service of the Lord. An example of skills anointing can be found in Exodus 31 where God anoints Bezalel with the specific ability to make the furnishings and golden crafts for the Tabernacle. The word "anoint" literally means to cover as paint covers a wall. When one looks at a painted wall, for instance, he does not see bricks and mortar but the paint that covers the bricks and mortar. In the same way the anointing of God upon someone for a specific purpose is the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit himself working in and though that person to empower his or her skills. Therefore, when we look at the work of an anointed artist or listen to an anointed speaker we should be impressed not by the individual but by the presence of the Holy Spirit who activates God's word in us. Dear God Tracker, what has the Lord called you to do? Are you a talented singer, artist or speaker? Then give your talent over to the Lord and seek his anointing his covering on your talent and then perform with all your heart, as unto him. You may feel that you lack talent but still sense the call of God in a certain field? Then call upon your Lord to anoint you with his skills anointing to empower you to do what he is calling you to do. And when you receive praise or credit for a job well done, return that praise directly to God, because the credit is his. You see, God does have a specific purpose for you, wherever you may be, and that purpose is empowered only by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. God-tracking is serving God under his anointing. Forgive me for using my talents in my own strength and for taking the credit for a job well done. I realise Lord, that all my abilities including my talents come from you so I return my praise to you and submit my talents to your service. You have prepared a table for me and that table contains all the goodies I need for a successful and equipped service.
