Sweet Potato Festival
by PamFord Davis Wherever we live in the U.S.A., we can normally anticipate a yearly festival in our community. In my hometown, we are happy to see warm temperatures and sunshine forecast for this weekend, as visitors fill our streets and stores for the Sweet Potato Festival. The thought of melted butter on baked sweet potatoes, sweet potato casseroles and sweet potato pie garnished with whipped cream topping makes my mouth water! "Grand Pa,' what's for supper?" (Hee-Haw) "Yum, yum!" Let me mention a few other festivals in southern states that come to mind, Watermelon Festival, Peanut Festival, Strawberry Festival and Rattlesnake Roundup. Gotch-ya! Yup, it's for real; I've never attended, but it must pull in crowds or they'd scrap the whole thing. The festivals imply we love to eat and a few of us like to live on the edge! As God's family, we gather every Sunday for our Worship Festival. "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers (Acts 2:42 NKJ)." We feast on His word and bond with our kinfolk. The vittles are filling, yet the preacher encourages all to stuff our hearts with favorite portions, take it on home and nibble later. The doors will be open and we love visitors. There will be someone there to meet you and shake your hand. I had better warn you, the greeter would be so happy to see you,the handshake may bring back memories of priming the old water pump!
