Brash, Bold? Never Cold!

Committee members match up a checklist of criteria with applicant's resumes; interviews reveal personality traits and the group pares down the list of likely leaders of the flock. The chairperson diligently averts personality conflicts before presenting their choice to the church body; the congregation expects a warm smile, comforting voice and firm hand shake in their spiritual leader. Ruffling of feathers and stepping on toes is strictly taboo. I believe John the Baptist and Apostle Paul would have stood little chance. John the Baptist did not make the best-dressed list and had used little tact in his messages to national and religious leaders. Multitudes may have labeled Paul as brash; in reality, he sought the prayers of others to receive strength and boldness. "and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak (Ephesians 6:19-20 NKJ)."
