Shiny Silver Dimes
by PamFord Davis One minute it was there irritating you and the next it was gone; a parent pulled a baby tooth and a gaping hole appeared in its place. Adults may find it difficult to remember many details of losing their first teeth but to a child, it is a major event. I remember Dad tying a string around one of my lose teeth, securing the other end around the glass doorknob on our hallway closet and then closing the door. The tooth came out and I believed money would mysteriously appear beneath my pillow. I no longer believe in a tooth fairy but do know many things that irritate me are there for a purpose. I ask God to remove them and he holds the string. He may pull annoyances out of my life or know it is best for them to remain. Paul learned that lesson very well. "Concerning this, I pleaded with the Lord three times to take it away from me. But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:8-9a HCS)." I find no shiny silver dimes under my pillow; instead, He refines me like silver through fires of affliction.
