Pick Your Battles
by PamFord Davis "Pick your battles." Wise parents of teenagers heed the advice, avoid skirmishes and save ammunition for times when they not only draw a line in the sand but also dig in their heels. Quarrels over issues of lesser significance simply cause those on opposing sides to form battle lines. It is advantageous for people of all ages to remember not only a generation gap leads to battles, but spiritual instigators as well. We need to know the enemy and pick our battles "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12 NAS)." This is a radical enlightening statement. We naturally view those we disagree with as our enemies and start throwing verbal blows. Our opposition retaliates, tempers flare, fur flies and evil forces celebrate. I would rather retreat and unsheathe my sword for spiritual warfare! (Ephesians 6:17) On guard!
