The Seasons of Life
by John Urs To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1) We live times of multiple changes in what concerns culture, politics, taste, society and all the others. Today's generation of children and teenagers are going through these changes much faster than the ones in the prior generation. There is much more pressure on this generation than used to be on all the other generations before them. The pressure is for increasing the pace of life and to grab it and get as much as you can out of it. "Carpe diem" (seize the moment) this is today's motto and this is the engine behind our culture and education in the modern society. Solomon says about God's wisdom that designed for man a certain order of living the different stages of life. He says that God makes all things beautiful in their time. We face so much decay of morality because the society is pressing on our children to grow mature before their real time, the time designed by God for our life. Today's children want to be mature before their time has come and want to "taste the forbidden fruit" before it's time. It is amazing to see that in the same way the nature has lost its cycle, in the same way the society lost its moral balance. When we were kids we used to see four seasons in nature: spring, summer, fall and winter. In the same way God has designed different seasons for our lives. The main problem is that everybody wants lo live only in the summer time and this is true about our environment and about our personal life. The young kids want to be mature and the old people act like they are young again. I'm shocked to see many times old children and young elders. I see young girls being mothers before their time has come, loosing their childhood before the time and suffering the consequences of their decision to speed up the pace of natural life. I see old people acting like teenagers with tattoos, body piercing, riding Harleys or driving expensive sport cars. This is the time we live, a time of mixed seasons, a time of moral and emotional confusion, a time of unbalance. Do you want to get the most of your life? Let God control your life and make the best out of it in His seasons!
