Set Him Straight
by PamFord Davis Once upon a time, there was a wealthy farmer. He grew a bumper crop, was blessed but failed to give thanksgiving to God. He had a miser's heart and a "me, myself and I" attitude. Instead of counting his blessings, he counted barns. "He thought to himself, 'What will I do? I have no place to keep all my crops.' Then he said, 'I know what I will do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger barns! I will put all my wheat and good things together in my new barns (Luke 12:17-18 ERV)." The desire to store away more and more consumed him. "Then I can say to myself, I have many good things stored. I have saved enough for many years. Rest, eat, drink, and enjoy life (Luke 12:19 ERV)!" He thought he was making a wise decision. God set him straight! "Foolish man! Tonight you will die. So what about the things you prepared for yourself? Who will get those things now (Luke 12:20b)?" He thought he was preparing for his future. He wouldn't see daybreak.
