Turbulent Seas
by PamFord Davis

Have you experienced a sudden storm out at sea? I have yet to take a cruise; it remains on my wish list. The possibility of seasickness does hamper my enthusiasm. I have heard stories of severe seasickness; in misery, travelers spent their entire trip in their room. I understand there are many remedies for seasickness; trial and error may be the only way to learn what really works. The best way to calm an upset stomach is to experience "calm" seas.

"A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, 'Teacher, don't you care if we drown?' He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Quiet! Be still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, 'Why are you so afraid (Mark 4:37-40a NIV)?" I seek him; he stills my spirit in turbulent times.
