Psalm 1 Skit
by Sylvia Maltzman

Cast of Characters:
Narrator
YM/YW or Young Woman a.k.a "YM/YW"
Ungodlies, Sinners and Scoffers (2 or 3 of each); most lines are ad-libbed

Narrator: Blessed, happy, is the one who doesn't walk in the counsel of the ungodly.

[YM/YW enters from Stage Right and
walks downstage while Ungodlies are ad libbing, enticing him to drink, pick up girls, etc.]

Narrator: Nor stands in the way of sinners.

[YM/YW crosses to Center Stage and encounters Sinners, who try to entice him to break into a house and steal TVs, etc.]

Narrator: Nor sits in the seat of the scoffers.

[YM/YW crosses to Stage Left and encounters seated Scoffers who berate him with slogans such as "You don't have to obey anyone," "God is dead," "Faith is stupid," etc.]

Narrator: But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law, he meditates day and night.

[YM/YW picks up a Bible, crosses back to Center Stage, looks heavenward and prays. ]

[Optional: cardboard tree is carried from stage left and stands behind YM/YW, birds and butterflies flutter around on sticks, blue-painted banner is placed at YM/YW's feet, sound effects of a babbling brook.]

YM/YW: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, bringing forth his fruit in his season. His leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.

Narrator: The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff that the wind drives away.

[All the Ungodlies, Sinners and Scoffers wander toward Center Stage, babbling their slogans at YM/YW, but then pantomime being blown across to Stage Left by a strong wind. They pantomime falling into a heap at the left wall.]

Narrator: Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

[Heap of Ungodlies, Sinners, and Scoffers try to stand up, but they can't.]

YM/YW: For the Lord knows the way of the Righteous.

Ungodlies, Sinners and Scoffers [still in a heap, in unison]: But the way of the ungodly shall perish. [They all fall flat.]
