"Let Jesus Come Into Your Heart"
by Ramona Cook I've said it thousands of times and I have known it is a correct thing to say. Why? Because the Bible says it just that way. I've sung songs that express the message and I have taught children to sing, "Come into my heart Lord Jesus," but I must confess that until a day or two ago I could not envision just what that would mean in real time action. I have always felt rather subconsciously that "Jesus in my heart" was a bit of cramped up space for Him. While reading from an on-line devotional*, Morning and Evening, written by Charles Spurgeon, I read something that gave a vision of how "Jesus in my heart" would play out in real life experience. My heart is of course a physical muscle and I also have a "spiritual heart." So what is the function of my physical heart? It is my motor. It has a great duty to perform in keeping me alive and healthy. My heart pumps my blood throughout my body. The Bible says that "life is in the blood."* My heart gathers oxygen from my lungs and nutrients from my digestive system and takes it out to every cell in my body. Then it also has the duty of returning the used and depleted blood back again to remove the impurities and to replenish it with nutrients and oxygen. Jesus is the Sustainer, Nurturer, Purifier, and the Power by which I live. There is only physical life for any of us unless we have invited Jesus into our "hearts" and ultimately into our entire "lives." The "spirit life" or rebirth, happens for us when Jesus is invited in and begins not only to "make" us alive in very fact, but to "keep" us alive also. He is our Life Force, and if so, then our behaviors will also be like His, and His words and works will be the "natural" outcome of His life giving Presence in us. Paul knew this truth because he said, "It is no longer I that live, but Christ that lives in me."* We all need Jesus to make us truly totally and functionally alive; because we have all sinned spiritually, and we need Him not only to be the Provider of our Salvation, but to be the constant "Life Force" within us, keeping us spiritually nurtured and keeping us pure. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door (of your heart) and knock; if anyone will hear my voice and open the door to Me, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me."* "Let Jesus come into your heart!"
