Ifology
by PamFord Davis I recall an incident when our Son, Lee, was two or three years old. We were shopping with his Grandmother. She pointed out a toy Volkswagen, asking him, "Can you say Volkswagen?" In a matter of fact way, he answered that his mouth was not big enough. Words do not have to be long or difficult to pronounce to be powerful, "if" you get my drift. Satan was master of "if-ology." "The devil came to Jesus to tempt him. The devil said, 'If you are the Son of God, tell these rocks to become bread (Matthew 4:3 NCV)." When at first he does not succeed, he tries to convince Jesus to jump from a temple high place. "The devil said, 'If you are the Son of God, jump off (Matthew 4:6a NCV)." The devil is persistent. Showing Jesus a worldly kingdom, he tempted him again. "If you will bow down and worship me, I will give you all these things (Matthew 4:9 NCV)." The master of deception fell in defeat when he challenged the Master. Jesus reigns triumphant! He is the way, the truth, and the life. (John 14:6) "Jesus said to the devil, 'Go away from me, Satan! It is written in the Scriptures, 'You must worship the Lord your God. Serve only him! So the devil left Jesus. And then some angels came and helped him (Matthew 4:10-11 NCV)."
