Ninth Hour
by PamFord Davis The many names of hair salons amuse and interest me. Make a note to read the names as you travel through small towns or busy city shopping areas. Likely, many businesses are creative when choosing a name; the cleverness of hairdressers seems to stand out. As a part of the writing ministry, I have also noticed fellow writers choosing clever blog domain names. A ministry name is a reflection of a person's personality or calling but can also be a quick way to grab someone's attention. Recently, while reading a passage on the crucifixion of Christ, I discovered an appropriate name of a ministry that shows compassion to individuals living in darkness of depression, disillusionment or sorrow, 'Ninth Hour Ministry.' "Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice saying, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?' which is translated, 'My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me (Mark 15:33-34 NKJ)?" In torment, the Son of God asked His Father why. When wondering why darkness comes into our lives we too can ask why. Calvary's darkness gave way to a sunrise celebration three days later. The Son arose from the darkness of a tomb! His resurrection restores hope for the hopeless. He experienced feelings of abandonment; though the Father appeared distant, He was only a breath away. "And Jesus cried out with a loud voice and breathed His last (Mark 15:37 NKJ)." Death only temporarily extinguished the Light of the world. "He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him (Mark 16:6b NKJ)."
