The Bible says that God knows the plans he has for us; plans for our prosperity, hope and a good future. The reality of that statement is, however, is it is indeed, God who knows his plans for us but we don't; not until we seek and track them, that is. God-tracking then is a concept that encourages us to acknowledge God in every aspect of life and then to trust him to lead our life's track according to his plans for us. Thus remaining in his perfect will. However, this process takes perspective and preparation. It requires hearing from God and then setting out on the path that he has planned for us with clear goals, set by him. I went for a jog the other day. I'm not a long distance runner but I do enjoy jogging. Before I set out I did a few stretches and warm ups and charged my water bottle with a mix of water and fruit juice. I planned to run along the canal towpath near my home to a certain point, then exit back to the road and return home. It was a lovely day and I was enjoying my trot along the canal. I use the time on the road to think and pray, as I jog. This day I was so deep in thought that I unwittingly ran right past my planned exit from the towpath. The next exit took me about a mile further from home. However, it was only when I came to that exit that I realised my mistake. I was most discouraged. Suddenly my legs felt like lead poles swinging painfully from tired old hips. By the time I returned home I was exhausted! You see, I had run further than I'd planned. In my mind I had set my goal so when I overran my target I had no more reserves to call upon. Running your God-track is a bit like that. It calls for perspective and preparation. As we plod this track of life we often discover how God changes situations from time to time. We humans don't take favourably to change and will kick against it at all costs. However, change is inevitable. When God realigns your goals you need to realign your perspective and your preparation to the new target that he sets you. Through pray and by his word the Holy Spirit will prepare you for your new course in life with new clear goals. A prime biblical example for this thought is seen in how Paul followed the leading of the Holy Spirit during his mission trips. Sadly, though, it often happens that as we plod this track of life we reach our God set gaols but, when we do, we're either not looking in the right direction or we simply ignore God's inspired changes and miss the exit to the next track that he has planned for us. Unfortunately, when this happens, not only does our ineptitude in tracking God's plans affect other people but it exhausts us to the point of burnout. When God says change we need to change. When God says run we need to run and when God says stop and rest a while we need to stop and rest. God-tracking is running with a clear God inspired target in mind. I feel as though I have overrun the target you set before me, for this part of my life. I'm sorry if I missed your leading to change. Help me now to find the point of exit you have planned for me so that I can move on into your new and wonderful plans for my life. On the other hand, help me to not preempt any changes in your plans for my life by quitting just because things get tough. Help me to walk in perspective and preparation along my life's track by acknowledging you in every minute detail of my life and by keeping my eyes on Jesus. Thank you for your plans for my life.
