Soap Opera Dilemmas
by PamFord Davis It's likely that the number of women who watch soap operas would not surprise you; men viewers might. True, major networks have cancelled the majority of soaps but they still have a presence and a faithful following. I was one of the faithful in 1968. As a new bride, with a black & white portable TV, I had little to do after tidying up our one-bedroom apartment. I filled the hours watching game shows and soap operas. Did I mention I have a fix-it personality? I took daytime soap opera dilemmas too seriously. One night, before I fell asleep I found myself mentally trying to work out their problems. The Lord opened my eyes to how silly that was and I stopped watching the dramatizations. My mom was a regular viewer of the CBS soap operas so when visiting her I did see how the soap opera 'world turned' and how the blinded characters were by their 'guiding light.' God, through His word is the only reliable guiding light! "Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105 NAS)."
