Singers Reveal Secret for Singing On Key
by Greg Miller By Greg Miller 2015 Perry, the music minister of a big congregation, decided to give the members of his church's choir an opportunity to showcase their musical talents. "I want each of you to write a brand new Christian song to honor and glorify the LORD Jesus Christ," Perry said. "I want you to write both words and music. After the song has been written, please record it on a CD or cassette tape and bring a copy of your song to me. You may also accompany yourself on a musical instrument." Perry told the choir's members, "Pastor Peter and I will select the winner, who will receive a special prize." "What's the prize?" asked Prince. "I know how much each of you likes to eat," said Pastor Peter, "so the winner will receive a coupon for free breakfast, lunch and dinner at a local restaurant." "May we team up with a friend on a project?" inquired Patience. "Sure," said Perry. "That's a wonderful idea. As Christians, we should always be looking for ways to work tegether to honor the Lord Jesus Christ." Prudence played the piano well, so she and Patience collaborated on a project. Patience wrote the words for a praise-and-worship song, for which Prudence composed the music. Preston wrote both the words and music for his song, a country-gospel tune. He had always wanted to record a country-gospel album, and he figured this would be a great time to fulfill his dream. "I believe God gave the dream to me, so God will be faithful to fulfill the dream in my life," he said. Paula and Pauline teamed up on a project. Paula wrote the words, and Pauline composed the music. Pauline played the violin, while Paula played the drums. Perry allowed the choir's members two weeks to write and record their songs and present their completed projects for judging. After Perry and Pastor Peter judged the songs, the congregation gave everyone a standing ovation. Paula and Pauline performed their song last. Before they began, Paula removed her house key from her purse and placed it under her right foot. Pauline removed her car key from her coat pocket and placed it under her left foot. Pastor Peter and Perry were thrilled with the great singing. "Everyone did a wonderful job!" Pastor Peter declared. "Amen!" shouted Perry. "We've decided everyone's a winner, so each of you will receive a coupon to the restaurant." "Why did you ladies put the keys under your feet?" asked Pastor Perry. "That's easy," smiled Pauline. "We've been singing together for years, and that's the only way we can actually sing on key!"
