A Bottle in Smoke
by Carol Levergood

Because I fail to feel your comfort
I stiffen with pride
And like a bottle, a wineskin of old I become
Broken,
Cracked,
Look useless to most that lend a gaze.
When will you comfort me?
Dried consumed by smoke of the raging fire about me.

So debilitated I feel,
Weakened, drained,
Encumbered within,
Hindered now for your work.
I am useless I sense
Lest You be my rescue.
Then my salvation is sure.
Bring life to an inadequate vessel as this.

Your hands have made me, You will
Fashion me to a vessel of Honor.
Revive me according to your loving kindness.
Upon which You have caused me to hope.
Your song hath quickened me
For Your Word hath given me life
And fit for the Masters use.

For I am become like a bottle (wineskin) in the smoke, yet do I not forget thy statutes. Psalm 119:83
