The Step of Faith.
by Vanessa Ferris She looked forward gazing at the reflection in front of her. She stared straight into the eyes of her worst enemy-herself "I hate you! I wish you were someone else!" She shouted with fist beating against the glass. Her heart pounded as her revolting words only hardened it, while the tears streaming down her cheeks exposed her weakness. A heavy burden lay in her heart. And she alone, carried this load. Why me? This question haunted her daily. Little did she know that those memories were gradually taking over her very existence. She glanced around the room. It was murky, remote area with insufficient lighting. While trying to gather her thoughts, she gasped for air. Finally a small object in the corner of the shelf caught her eye. She hesitated trying to merely shrug off the thoughts. But nothing could shake these feelings that empowered her. She grabbed the small, jagged object. Her eyes studied it closely. "What led me to this?" She cried. She sighed deeply as she contemplated the action that she would forever regret the choice if made. But all of a sudden, a transformation occurred. Overwhelmed from pain, she dropped to her knees in reverence. She began to weep. "Jesus." She whispered. "Jesus, are you there?" One name was all she had to pronounce. The all-powerful name of Christ's son, Jesus, she called upon. Her grip loosened from the knife until the sound of clanging echoed the room. The burdens that suffocated her began to lift, while the darkness turned into light. This girl, who once felt unlovable, now experienced unconditional love. The girl who was once lonely and in despair, now found hope. A few seconds passed; she quickly arose to her feet once more. The hatred stored inside soon faded, as she began to wipe her tears. From that point on, she wept no more. I am Vanessa Ferris an eighteen year old from Toledo, Ohio. I have been writing poetry and short stories since I was in 7th grade.
