Open Heart Test
by PamFord Davis This is an open heart test. Most of us have taken open book tests; even if we had not crammed for the tests, we had a fighting chance. In open heart tests, God gives us more than mere chance; He offers salvation. In humility, multitudes have sought Him and searched their hearts. Eager to learn about a right relationship with the LORD, Lydia listened attentively to the Apostle Paul. "On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate by the river, where we thought there was a place of prayer. We sat down and spoke to the women gathered there. A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was spoken by Paul. After she and her household were baptized, she urged us, 'If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.' And she persuaded us (Acts 16:13-15 HCS)." Lydia passed the open heart test royally! She opened her heart to Jesus and her house to His servants, Paul and Silas. Lydia's willingness to be obedient through baptism and hospitality serves as an example to all today.
