Travel by faith
by Greg Robbins Back in 2007 I lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I didn't have a job, my money was running out, and I could no longer pay the rent on the apartment that I lived in. So I started seeking God for guidance as to what my next step should be. Now it's no fun giving up an apartment, especially when I really liked living there. I was happy in Santa Fe too. But the recession hit New Mexico harder than most of the country and things were just difficult. I had to deal with worry and fear just like everyone else. Thankfully I already knew that I could seek shelter in the Rock who is stronger than I am. So over a period of several weeks, I diligently sought the Lord for his guidance. I pulled out a road atlas and began looking through it. I kept getting drawn to a small town in Montana called Gardinier. Gardinier is located at the northern entrance to Yellowstone National Park. This made absolutely no sense to me. I was praying for guidance to a job, a room or cabin to live in, and plenty of food to eat. My mind told me that it is completely ridiculous and foolish to go to a small town in the middle of no where. Yet consistently my attention was drawn toward this small town, day after day. It began to consume my thoughts. I think that I even dreamed about it. So when the day finally arrived to pack up and to leave, I loaded my Ford Escort with what would fit into it, and off I went. I had enough money to get to Gardinier, Montana; and even have a few dollars left over when I arrived there. But I had no money left over to leave once I got there. That is a faith journey! I had to place all of my trust in the Lord, and that it truly was him leading me there, even though it made absolutely no sense to me at that time. I just had to be willing to act on the Lord's guidance in the matter. I couldn't imagine myself getting stranded or stuck there either. So I guess that is faith. It is an inner knowing that all will turn out well, and then taking the action required to accomplish it. It was of the greatest importance that I had sought the Lord very diligently about this move, and didn't just do it of my own accord. The morning after I arrived in Gardinier I decided to go into town to seek employment. Gardinier consists of two main streets and then some residential streets as well. Needless to say, it is a very small town. I pulled into a gas station which also boasted a Subway Restaurant. I walked in, went to the counter, and opened my mouth to speak. I only said, "Good morning. What's the job situation like here." And suddenly a total stranger rushed over and said, "Do you want a job? I know where you can get a job. And there is employee housing and a cafeteria with three meals a day." We started conversing and he said that he had to get back to work, but would I follow him to the human resources office? I agreed. As I followed behind his pick-up truck, I noticed that he had a New Mexico license plate and a car dealer logo that said, "Capitol Ford". It turned out that he had bought his truck in Santa Fe, at the car dealership where I had worked, only a few months prior to this. Now how's that for a sign! Those are impossible odds that this would happen. My heart began to rejoice in the majesty of God. A few days later I was working at the General Store in the village of Old Faithful, in Yellowstone National Park. I had my own room in a National Park Service dormitory, and enjoyed three very good meals a day in the employee cafeteria. That wasn't all. Before I got my first paycheck I ran out of money. I didn't need much, but I didn't want to be flat broke either. I prayed and trusted the Lord to meet my need. The next morning, while walking around, I found a fifty dollar bill laying on the ground. So it turned out I had heard very clearly the guidance of the Lord, and he provided for me just as he had promised in his holy word. That too is faith. Never be afraid to trust God and his promises.
