Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is hammering away at obstacles in life with tenacious faithfulness

 2 Corinthians 4:16
So, we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away,
our inner self is being renewed day by day.

Blow after blow John beat away at the brick wall with his sledge hammer. The wall was not high but it was sturdy. The hammer fell at the base of the wall with force… twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine, thirty blows. John paused and wiped his brow. His arms ached, yet the wall stood firm. Thump! He hit the wall with another blow. The wall fell in a heap of dusty rubble at his feet. The question arises, which blow brought the wall down?

In the book of Daniel, we read how Daniel prayed and fasted for 3 weeks, seeking God for the deliverance of his people from Babylonian bondage. Twenty-one days had passed then, on the last day of his fast, God revealed great mysteries to the prophet in a vision. Daniel did not experience the vison after only two days or eight days or ten days of prayer. Daniel endured his 3-week fast, day after day, waiting on God, not knowing when God would answer. That great vision arrived, according to God’s timing, on the last day of his fast. The question arises, which day of prayer brought on God’s revelation to Daniel?

Tenacious faithfulness is seen in both these stories. Neither men knew which moment would bring the fulfilment of their cause, yet they stubbornly persisted until the answer came. So, which blow against the wall; which day of fasting, brought on the desired result? The answer… all of them. With passionate hope these men set out on their quests, persisting in their causes without any visible results until, finally, the answer came. Each of John’s blows weakened the wall until the final one brought it crashing down. For Daniel, each day of prayer and fasting added to the other until the moment arrived when God came through in a great vision. Endurance. Persistence. Tenacity.

By the Holy Spirit Paul said, “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Dear friend, never doubt for one minute that you are making progress in your faith walk, provided you keep your eyes on Christ. Every up and every down adds to the other until you eventually excel in the purposes of God. Don’t lose heart as you slog away at the walls in your life. Your inner self is being renewed day by day. So, don’t give up, look up! Look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen, in tenacious faithfulness.

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!

I put my trust in you, I put my faith in your purposes in all I face in life

Pray
“Dear Lord, sometimes I get so tired. I get despondent with this race of life. Day after day slogging away at the same-old-same-old is taking its toll on me. I’m sorry for dropping my guard. I choose now to lift up my arm and to continue hammering away at these walls in my life with tenacious faithfulness. I put my trust in you, I put my faith in your purposes in all I face in life. God, I will not give up; I will look up and fix my eyes on Jesus who faithfully endured the cross, scoring its shame, to go on and sit at your right hand in glory. Amen.”
