GOD-TRACKING IS BEING ASSURED THAT HE NEVER CHANGES
by Dudley Anderson GodTracker 640 11 August 2017 GOD-TRACKING IS BEING ASSURED THAT HE NEVER CHANGES 1 Timothy 1:17 We’ve been studying the names of God in our church. The Lord our God is known by several names. The most sacred and personal name used in the Old Testament is the name Yahweh (from which we derive the name Jehovah). Moses discovered God as Yahweh when God revealed himself to him at the burning bush saying, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” This name reveals God as sovereign, holy and personal saviour. There are many compound names that use Yahweh or Jehovah to describe the character of God, such as Jehovah-Shalom, Jehovah-Roi and Jehovah-Rapha. However, of all the names for God we find in the Bible, it’s some of the names that start with El that awe me the most. (The term El simply means God.) Of these, the one name that offers me the most comfort is the name El Olam – the Everlasting God. My parents had a shrub in their garden when I grew up in South Africa called, the Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow plant. In the growing season, it would flourish with fragrant flowers. The buds would open revealing a clean white bloom. However, on returning the next day you would notice that the bloom had developed a pale mauve centre. By the time the next day had arrived, it would have turned completely mauve. It takes three days for one bloom to turn from white to mauve. Now, the novelty of this lovely shrub is, it becomes covered in blooms at each stage of transformation. Therefore, on one plant you would find dazingly white flowers and pale mauve flowers and deep mauve flowers. Hence its common name, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Listen to God’s Word: “’I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty,’’” (emphasis is mine). Just as on one Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow shrub we simultaneously find three blooms in their three stages of development, so the Lord our God, whose name is El Olam, is and was and is to come, simultaneously. El Olam is not temporal or time restrained. El Olam is not mortal. El Olam is King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God! He has no beginning and no end. If you know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour and acknowledge God in all your ways then you can stand sure today in the knowledge that you are completely safe in him. Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Your God is already in your tomorrow, meeting your needs and preparing your path. He is dependable, consistent and faithful. What he has promised, he will do! Nothing can surprise El Olam, because he knows all things. He knows your yesterday, he knows your today and he knows your tomorrow. He is the Everlasting God; he will sustain you. God-tracking is being assured that he never changes.
