The Myth of the Mirror
by Shakera Reid-Stewart If I stare long enough in the mirror, I see all the flaws, I see all my inner demons with all their fangs and claws, I see my sinful nature and the imperfect set of my chin, The mirror shows how man sees me, but God has wiped away my sin. This mirror doesn't represent who I am; it doesn't even represent a part, It never shows my true inner beauty that comes directly from the heart. You see the mirror isn't as forgiving and accepting of who I am, This object cannot tell that I am covered in the Blood of the Lamb. Whether I'm too fat or just too skinny, too tall or way too small, To my Creator who loves me, it really doesn't matter at all. He does ask me to take care of myself; my body is His temple. But what He requires of me is always very simple. Always put Him first and trust Him in all I do, The love He has for me always negates the mirrors point of view. I may not be a supermodel or a celebrity of any kind, But because I'm made in His image, I'm beautiful in heart, soul, and mind.
