GOD-TRACKING IS BEING READY TO CAST YOUR BREAD UPON THE WATERS

Ecclesiastes 11:1
Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days

There’s an Jewish tale that goes: Bar Kappara, an old Jewish sage, was once walking along the seashore of Caesarea, when he noticed a shipwreck out at sea. As he watched, he saw a man swimming from the wreck towards the shore. When the man reached land, he almost collapsed with weariness. Bar Kappara went forward and gave him a helping hand. He then took him home, clothed him, fed him and offered him some money. So, the man went away refreshed and restored.

Some years later, the Jews of Caesarea found themselves in a predicament with the local authorities and decided to send a petition to the Governor. They chose Bar Kappara to go and speak on their behalf. Bar Kappara prayed to God to for guidance. When he reached the palace, he asked to see the Governor. As he was ushered into the presence of the Governor, to his great astonishment, Bar Kappara recognized him as the same man whom he had once saved and helped on the shores of Caesarea.

"What can I do for you, my friend?" said the Governor, recognizing Bar Kappara as his onetime friend in need. "Bar Kappara earnestly begged the Governor to use his influence in helping his fellow countrymen deal with the pending need. Listening carefully to the story, the Governor said, “I will gladly do this favour for you, my friend, because when I was in such a desperate state you helped me to the maximum of your ability, without asking for or expecting any reward. Because of your unselfishness and kindness to me, I shall now help your suffering brethren at your request."

The Governor gave a large sum of money to Bar Kappara saying, “Take this money back as a gift from me. For, although the sum of money you gave me was not as great as this, to me it meant everything at the time of my need. You may return to your brethren and tell them that I am helping them, out of gratitude to you."

Bar Kappara joyfully hurried back with the good news to his friends who were anxiously awaiting his return. Great was the rejoicing among them at Bar Kappara's good tidings. They all acknowledged how true was the saying of King Solomon: "Cast thy bread upon the waters for you shall find it after many days."

You may be faced with the prospect of letting go of a vision or a dream today; or God may be asking you to sow into the needs of another. Be sure that, if you acknowledge God in all your ways, he will guide your life’s track. And if he is guiding your life’s track then you can be sure that the words of Jesus will hold true for you: “For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I give back to you all that you have given me. Dear Lord, do with my life what you would.

“Dear Lord, I acknowledge you in all my ways. I acknowledge you in my needs and I acknowledge you in my giving. I commit my ways to you and trust that you will always direct the outcome of my choices. As I face opp ortunities to cast my bread upon the waters and sow into the needs of others, help me to walk by faith that it will soon return to me, pressed down, shaken together and running over. Lord, give me wisdom in my giving. And Lord, help me not to hold fast to my dreams and ambitions for selfish reasons, but to cast them, too, upon the waters. I give back to you all that you have given me. Dear Lord, do with my life what you would. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
