I NEVER GOT HER NAME!
by Lewis E. Thomas

I NEVER GOT HER NAME!

I'm home now with a full stomach, reclining in my chair.
But there are thoughts in my mind I would like to share.

My wife and I ate at Chic Filet earlier today...
And I saw a homeless lady across the way!

She was sleeping with her head down on the table with her backpack nearby.
I thought Lord, that could be me and I wanted to cry!

Have you ever "imagined" how it would be to live on the street?
And to have "no home" or place to rest your weary feet?

To have no one to care if you live or die!
To have no one to hold you when you cry!

The whole time she sat there I never saw her with food on her table.
I felt that God wanted me to do "something" because I was able!

I said, "Mam, would you like to have something to eat?"
She said, "Yes" and she looked back toward her seat.

I walked with her to the counter and I said, "Order anything you want and I will pay!"
So, she got a meal before she left to go on her way.

I gave her a Church business card and a Chic Filet gift card to help her out.
Then I watched her as she left and walked out.

As she headed up the street walking I suddenly felt great shame!
* I never even asked her for her name! *

Help the down and out and show them and God you care!
Then "everytime you pray" lift them up in prayer!

Memorize the following scripture after you close this rhyme!
For to forget it is an unholy crime!

1 John 3:17
If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
