Summertime and swimming go together like winter and building snow men. In my birthplace of Upstate NY, neighborhood children found welcome relief from the heat by wading or swimming. I did not like to get into any water over my head.
To this day, I still want my toes touching bottom. The dislike of water in my nose and choking on water deterred my aquatic adventures; I never got up enough courage to jump from diving boards. When in water, my preference was floating on my back.
My cowardice hindered me from adventures of swimming out in the deep. Swimming in shallow water is for timid beginners, while the brave of heart enjoy deep sea diving with the aid of scuba gear. Spiritually, we progress from cowardice-to-courageous as we seek a deeper Spirit filled life.
“Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over; for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over (Ezekiel 47:5 KJV).”
After surrendering my life to Christ and growing in faith, he drew me away from my shoreline comfort zone, into deeper spiritual waters. The Holy Spirit opened my eyes of understanding through the word of God.
The deeper I go into the Bible, the more I want to know the Father. I want to feel the waves of worship breaking over my head….
