DIVINE REGARD FOR THE NEEDY
by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE

Scriptural Reading: Deuteronomy 15:10-11

‘‘For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.’’ Psalms 9:18 (KJV)

Schooling with inadequate fund comes with its own peculiar challenges. Years ago, I was a poor student on campus. My pocket money for the month was less than 50 Dollars. Out of this little amount, I would pay my tithe as a student and life was not friendly with me then. During vacation, I had to engage in odd jobs for extra finances. As a result of my faithfulness in tithing to God, He saw me through my academics without experiencing carry over and with good result. Each time people gave me money; I valued it and do not forget what they have done for me.

The word of God records that we have to show affection to the poor who are always in need and who dwell in our midst, and anyone that does good to the poor has done it as well to the Almighty creator. For every giver that gives to the poor will never go unrewarded. Helping the poor is a worthy cause and it comes with blessings from above. It is a sacrifice that God is well pleased with at all times, and it is saving a soul project.

God Almighty is a compassionate God who loves the needy always and has positioned different helpers to attend to them. Any fellow that laughs at the needy laughs at God. God does not want us to close our ears to the cry of the needy. He wants us to help them by seeing them as vulnerable. God cares for everyone and He does not discriminate. He wants us to do the same.

Have we been turning down the request of the needy and seeing them as a burden to us? Let us repent today and make our creator happy by assisting them. Here is also a supporting scripture we can hold on to and apply on a daily basis. Psalms 41:1 (KJV)Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, give me the grace to consider the needy and to see them as dearly beloved at all times. Amen.

The cry of the needy ascends faster to God than the cry of the comfortable.
