Wife has Unusual Birthday Celebration

Grace decided to begin celebrating her birthday in a much different way.

About one month before her birthday, Grace posted a message on all of her Social Media accounts: “I am hosting a different kind of birthday party for my big day this year, July 1 from 2-4 p.m. You are invited to attend, but please don’t bring a birthday present for me. Instead, I ask that you make a donation to your own church.

“I will provide sandwiches, drinks and desserts. We will play a variety of games and have lots of fun.”

Grace asked her husband, Mercy, to co-host and help plan the party. “I’ll be glad to help, sweetheart,” Mercy told his wife. “Spending time with you is a blessing.”

Mercy was thrilled by Grace’s gracious attitude of giving, so he decided to plan a special surprise for his wife. Before the guests began arriving for the party, he asked Grace to join him for a special time of prayer and receiving Holy Communion together. Grace and Mercy sat at the dinner table, where Mercy already had prepared the communion elements.

Mercy read aloud a passage from First Corinthians chapter 11, penned by the Apostle Paul. “For I have received of the Lord which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

Grace and Mercy prayed that the Lord would forgive them of those things in their lives that did not please Him, then they received the communion wafers and grape juice.

Before the party guests arrived, Grace and Mercy spent a few moments in prayer, thanking God for all His blessings.

Mercy told his wife he loved her unreservedly. “To show my love, I’m donating 100 dollars to the local orphanage in your name and in your honor,” he said.

“And after our guests leave this evening, we’re going to the orphanage and share your birthday cake with all the children.”

“Thanks very much!” exclaimed Grace. “You’ve given me the second best birthday gifts ever!”

“Second  best?”

“That’s right! Jesus gave the best gift when He died on the Cross to save me from sin. That’s the very best gift!”
